Meeting SNF Needs
An assessment should be done by your doctor. The assessment will examine one’s ability to complete daily functions, assess medical conditions and determine if memory loss or dementia has occurred and if any of these are severe enough to prevent the person from living alone. If diseases are worsening with age, skilled nursing care may be needed.
Medicare
Under certain conditions, Medicare will pay some nursing home costs for Medicare beneficiaries who require skilled nursing or rehabilitation services. To be covered, you must receive the services from a Medicare certified skilled nursing home after a qualifying hospital stay. A qualifying hospital stay is the amount of time spent in a hospital just prior to entering a nursing home. This is at least three days.
